I know it advises not before November but I've got loads to plant and hate doing it when the ground is wet, frozen and my fingers freeze!

Is it still really too early?

Mine are in a cold cupboard waiting for the temperature to drop but will hope to get them in before the ground gets too hard

Ffs. I’ve got one pot that a fox keeps digging every night and today the bulbs were on the floor. Can I recover them? I planted them 2 weekends ago and they’ve been disturbed every night this week

Put them back in and sprinkle the surface of soil with chilli.

I plant tulips in pots and then cover them with with chicken wire or netting to keep foxes and squirrels off. Persistent little buggers where I am.

Mind you I still haven't recovered from the sight of a squirrel developing a taste for tulip flowers last spring - it decapitated every single flower coming into bud in one pot. I detest squirrels ...

Squirrels don’t like daffodils? Thank you! <rushes off to the garden centre>

They might not like eating them, but they are not averse to digging them up for fun. Bstrds.

I've chucked mine in and it's fingers crossed.
That's pretty much my approach to all gardening 😃

Ha ha mine too.

Mine are in.

I wasn’t going to plant any new bulbs this year but fell victim to late night “just looking “ bulb company surfing and now seem to have 100 + on order, luckily most of them are little ones so will be snuck into nooks and crannies. Which will probably be the same nooks and crannies I used last year……….

MulberryMoon · 23/10/2022 13:48

😃Bet it'll look lovely.

I've got a load of bulbs to plant this weekend as well. If I cover them with weed membrane until spring, will it keep the bastards squirrels and foxes off?

cobblers123 · 28/10/2022 14:12

I've got 16 packs of tulips waiting to go in and last week had a bulk supply of compost and grit ready for planting them into tubs and containers next month.

I resisted the impulse whilst in Lidl this morning to buy yet more of them, I promised I wouldn't do so many pots for next spring but yet again, I've failed to practice what I preach. There will be pots of tulips everywhere!😆

BestIsWest · 28/10/2022 14:17

I’ve just put some tulips and alliums in at lunchtime but have got more to put in. I took all mine up after flowering and bunged them in random spots all over the garden. Trouble is I have no idea where I put them. It will be a nice surprise if any come up.

Harrysmummy246 · 28/10/2022 16:59

Haven't had chance yet at home and i don't think they've been been delivered as yet for the work garden. No idea what owner is ordering or how many 🙄

cobblers123 · 31/10/2022 09:23

I planted up a small tub of tulips I saved from this spring. It's usually the case they don't flower as well the second year so I've put them in a tub I don't usually use and they will stay in the back garden in case the flowers are very small or there are no flowers at all.

They were so pretty this year I thought I'd give them a chance and see what they will do next year.
