Can anyone identify this tree for me?

Absolutely gorgeous colours. The newer, smaller leaves at the bottom are still green but the more mature leaves are orange and a brilliant red at the very top.

Looks a bit like laurel.
I use google lens to identify trees and plants, it's not 100% accurate but often gives a few alternatives.

I tried Google lens, wasn't very helpful. Don't think it's a laurel, it's a tree rather than a shrubby thing, a good few metres tall.

Is it a camellia?

LadyOfTheCanyon · 10/10/2022 15:00

It's reminiscent of a lime or an apple to me.

BestIsWest · 10/10/2022 15:02

Though camellias are evergreen so maybe not.

Yamadori · 10/10/2022 16:54

Looks like lilac to me.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 10/10/2022 17:26

I think it's a bit waxy for lilac and the stem too woody. But even though I'm a florist I'm not super good with trees!

Fleetheart · 10/10/2022 18:35

it looks like pear leaves to me

jazzandh · 10/10/2022 18:45

I'd say pear as well - mine has similar type leaves and has indeed turned red at the top as well.

Roselilly36 · 10/10/2022 18:46

I would guess some kind of fruit tree.

Snowberry3 · 10/10/2022 18:50

Possibly Katsura - it has good colour

Snowberry3 · 10/10/2022 18:53

Cercis canadensis - possibly this

Notimetothink · 10/10/2022 18:56

My plant app says it’s a pear.

It does look like the pear leaves. I'm going to have a closer look again tomorrow.

Laurel is evergreen and has longer leaves. The dying leaves go yellow, no red tints

MereDintofPandiculation · 11/10/2022 08:47

My first reaction was pear, from leaf shape and the way they bend back on themselves, described colour, and the appearance of the twigs.

Not Camellia, evergreen, no red in the dying leaves, not lime, leaves are much rounder with toothed edges, and the twigs are a warmer brown. Leaves look too rigid for lilac, and again, I don’t think lilac produces the red tones. Vein pattern wrong for Katsura. Cercis canadensis has much more of a heart shape to the leaf.

The trees have great colours this year due to the sunny spells in the summer so it might not always have that colour. Due to sugars stored in the leaves.
