What would happen to a pieris if I chopped it back?

I have a leggy pieris (sp?) which I have touted from my last house to this because I felt sorry for it. The previous owner left it behind in a pot. It is quite leggy with little growth at the bottom. Hoping you can see the gap in the middle. I'm contemplating (a) chopping it down to about 30cm to see if it will rejuvenate (b) planting something in front of it to hide its bare bottom (c) completely digging it out. If I chop it, will it produce new growth or kill it off? If i plant in front of it, any ideas for an acid green plant (like my choisya)?

I had a pieris that I cut back radically a year or two ago and it is doing fine.

I totally read that as 'penis'. Shock

@parietal when we say radically, how radical? 🤔I guess I want to go down to about 30 cm. I could give it a go and then hoof it out if I kill it couldn't I? At least I'm giving it a chance. Do you think cut it now or in spring?
@Tailfeather totally wrote penis at one point 😂

Check the RHS website for the best time of year to prune it.

Off topic, but what is the lovely yellowy pink floaty plant top left?
It's gorgeous!

Leah2005 · 10/10/2022 21:55

@EndlessMagpies oh of course - I didn't think of that. I was kind of hoping someone would say, oooh I've done that and it looks like this now. 😊
@Blimmingdull it's a smoke Bush (can't think of formal name) but an acid green colour. It's changing colour before it stops its leaves. I love it. I have a red one too.

Ooh thanks. I love it. We had a black/red one in our old flat and it grew so fast as well.

Leah2005 · 11/10/2022 08:21

@Blimmingdull my red one is a miniature and I don't think would get much bigger if I put it in the ground. The yellow green is also in a pot but has got bigger because its not a miniature. (don't the technical term - my gardening knowledge come from my mum who makes up the names as she goes along 😊😊)
