Quick growing hedge/bush or other barrier for next to a fence

I need to make a bit of a barrier next to my fence on the inside of my garden. My dog is scared of other dogs (I am working on this with a trainer), and next door now have a boisterous puppy who jumps at the fence. This obviously sets my scared one off so want to put something along the fence to create a sort of buffer zone. Are there any quick growing bushes/hedges that I could put in that would do well in mostly shade? Budget friendly ideally!

Also open to alternatives. Like I said I'm working on the training aspect as well, I just want to help my dog enjoy her garden again.

Cherry laurel!
Fast… thrives in shade or sun.

Thank you! Sounds good, I'll have a look into that today.

Just bear in mind if it's quick growing it likely won't stop at a reasonable height and will need regular trimming to keep it manageable.

Yes cherry laurel would fit and is evergreen. Or bamboos in large pots (not in the ground as even the clumping ones spread eventually), depends how long the section of fence is.

May also be worth putting a cheap barrier such as bamboo screening along the fence while the hedge grows up.

Just to agree with @Accesscode, if you go for something fast growing be really careful to check the eventual size of the plants, or you'll spend your life hacking it back and ruing the day that you ever put it in your garden! I had a beech hedge that was beautiful, but needed almost constant maintenance to keep it at a reasonable height. Maybe put some bamboos in large pots near the fence (not in the ground or it will take over!). Bamboo grows incredibly quickly and will work well as a quick stopgap.

Isn't cherry laurel poisonous to dogs?

I think all laurels are toxic to cats and dogs. That said, I’ve got Portuguese and cherry laurels in my garden and my dog and cats have never eaten them. I’ve had pets for years and the laurels have never presented a problem. Neighbours have them too.

Thank you for the advice, I might go for potted bamboo, my dog likes to eat anything she can so don't want to risk the laurel!
