Lawn mower recommendations

Hi all,
I've just moved from a 2 bed flat into a house, with a large garden. So excited to finally have a garden. Have had a gardener over last week to give it a once over as I don't have any equipment. Am now looking for lawn mower recommendations please? Looking for something that's easy to push along!

Anything powered will be easy to push, ie it’ll be self propelled. Whether you go for electric or petrol depends on size of lawn, petrol tend to be more powerful but often heavier. Where will you keep it? Will you need to carry it or lift it down from somewhere?

Do you want a close cut lawn with stripes? - if so, your mower needs a roller.

I think you can get cordless electric ones now. If you want to push the boat out, you can get robotic - but is your garden secure?

Following, as ours is falling apart.
I've been looking at the battery ones.
We have an electric bosch right now that has done us for 15 years, but I cut through the cable last autumn, and it's not been the same since.

Will keep in the garage, won't need to lift it down. Garden is secure, with 6ft fencing around, it's about a 100ft long. Have electric power points outside. I think I would prefer something lightweight, therefore electric, and ideally cordless.

Also watching with interest. Have about half an acre of lawn. Have time and inclination and def not looking for a perfect lawn. Keen to leave wildlife borders etc. Can’t afford gardeners/ride on / robotic right now.

Firstly, don't mow it all as it is better for wildlife and looks better if some is left long, which also saves loads of work.

Secondly get a decent make - we chose Bosch- and then look at what the models say in terms of size of garden. Think about where you'll charge it or plug it in. Electric is much lighter and less faff so I chose that. Batteries now are better than they were.

In our area we have a place where you can hire them so this might be a good idea for you to try one of each (petrol and electric). But petrol was never on my list as I didn't want to have to store petrol.

Match the size of the mower to the size of the lawn. Lawn was (it has since shrunk massively) about 59ft by 30ft, so I chose a tiny Qualcast which I can dangle from one finger. That was 30 years ago. Have to empty the box about 3-4 times on a mid season mow but it’s good for getting into small spaces. On a larger lawn the box emptying gets tedious so you go for a larger mower and sacrifice a bit of manoeuvrability

I’ve got fairly large lawn front and back. Used to have someone come to mow them once a week, but that had to change due to circumstances as couldn’t afford it.

I had never mown a lawn in my life! I got a Bosch cordless and it’s so easy to use. I didn’t want the faff of petrol nor an electric cable dragging along. I purchased an extra battery which is handy as one battery definitely wouldn’t do the whole area. Have had it about 4 years now and am still happy with it.

We've got a Bosch electric. It's fine. Easy to use and light enough to do corners!
