I have had the best summer …

And I’m sad it’s ending.
We moved into our new house this time last year to a completely empty garden. We had a shed and a patio and grass. Nothing else.
In April this year I started on a journey to learn about gardening and getting my garden ready.

I really just wanted a few plants etc. But it turns out I really enjoy gardening. I have spent so many hours learning and walking round garden centres. Not even buying things just reading and looking and chatting to staff.

I have enjoyed this summer so much more than any others. But everyone on here has been so helpful and helped me. I’m so excited to re start again next year with new flower beds and some knowledge.

I remember sitting in the garden centre on the wall feeling so overwhelmed and upset at not knowing what I was doing.

But I am already making plans for the front of the house for next year.

I'm glad you've caught the bug.Grin It's a never-ending lesson, there is always something new to learn. Even the experts don't know it all nor always get it right. And then there's the weather to send you a curve ball...
As you say, it not just the actual gardening - it's also the review at the end of the year, looking back at highs and lows, which then leads on to the next year's planning. Hope springs eternal!

I love summer, there's always so much to do. Can't wait for next year!

So glad you have a new hobby you enjoyed this summer.
gardening doesn’t have to end just because it’s winter. there’s veggies to grow, mulching to do (most important for the plants) new borders to dig, seeds to start etc. I want to make wreaths and garden ornaments in the bad weather.

Welcome to the world of gardening. But don’t think you have finished for the year, it’s bulb season for a start, look up lasagne bulb planting and get your credit card ready for action.

Get selecting your tulip and daffodil bulbs as you need to plant them soonish. Put some in pots as well as borders . And you’ll enjoy them come spring.

What a lovely thing to hear, welcome to the club! You only get January off from gardening you know, and only if the garden is actually under about a foot of snow.

Autumn is the best time for planting anything long lived.

Post a photo and we can advise? <hopeful>

So good to hear! I’ve recently started to be really interested in gardening despite having had one for years!
Think I’ve overcome my ‘what if it’s wrong’ fears and am enjoying the process.
