Dahlias in a container

I have had some success growing dahlias in a container. However now that they are almost done I am wondering what I can do next (other than dispose of them). Can I save the tubers/overwinter the pots - or is it a fresh start next year?

Feed them. There should still be life in them!
You could either take them up to store or shove the whole pot in the shed for the winter. As long as it’s dry, it should be ok.

Cut them right back before storing.

I cut them vack, dug up and put in newspaper in boxes in the shed. Get them out in May and grow again.

What will kill them overwinter is wet tubers more than cold. Mine in pots get put in the cold greenhouse/shed when it frosts and eventually I take them out, shake them off, leave them on the low greenhouse shelf then pot them up again in spring.

Thank you! - Will feed them and then cut them back and store them later

They can't be almost over? Dahlias will keep going to the frosts so long as you deadhead them.

Good feed, cut back and you'll have weeks more flowers yet.

I cut mine as they die and this way they continue to re flower each time usually until the end of summer. Then cut back the lot. Last winter I left out all winter and popped the pot in a fleece bag when super cold.
