Photonia red robin

Well it's about all plants really it regards repotting.
So I just bought a photenia red robin and have just repotted it into a container. I didn't do anything with the roots I just pulled it out of the pot it came in and put it in the hole I made in the container. I hope I haven't killed it it's a lovely plant.
I've always done this when repotting plants and they always do well.
I've just been looking online and some sites say don't tease the roots or it'll damage them, cut them to loosen them. How on earth does cutting into them with a knife not damage them?

Anyway, is it too late to pull it out and cut the roots? I haven't a clue what I'm doing so will my little plant be ok? The roots weren't loose they were tight together. Like I say I've always just pulled the whole plant out with the soil and placed it in it's new home.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

it will be fine - it is a pretty tough plant. make sure you give it plenty of water given how dry everything is and leave it in peace.

Thank you! 😊 I was worried what I've read online about the roots just keep on wrapping around themselves and the plant dies. I watered it well when I repotted it so will leave it in peace like you say.
I've got houseplants I've always done the same with and my chilli plants too when repotting and they've always been fine.

There is always something somewhere that will tell you you are doing it wrong. What you did was fine, just keep the plant well watered.
