Ridiculous garden spiders

So, the last couple of years I have had ridiculous numbers of spider webs in my garden. I have lived here 10 years and it has never been like this. They are on all the fence panels, every corner, everything in the garden including some plants (rosemary, which I thought they were meant to dislike the smell of). On my garden furniture. I have loose cobble stones around my patio borders and the webs are all over those. There is an atco drain and that is covered with the webs inside and out. Window and door frames, everything. Every few days I go and sweep them away and they come back.

I am generally in favour of live and let live but this is ridiculous. I only have a regular size new build garden and spent a lot of money to make it a nice space which it no longer is. I have tried repellant spray with orange oil in it and recently a spray bottle with peppermint oil.

I don't mind them having behind the shed and in moderation but not this. I assume they will have babies and next year will be even worse.
Help!!!

I think it’s the lack of rain myself, no reason for them to scurry off somewhere shelter or any rain to wash off the smaller webs.

unless you’re about to tell me you’re in an area that’s had loads of downpours Grin

We had the same in our garden for the past 2 years. I really don't do well with spiders so didn't/couldn't use the garden Sad like in yours they were everywhere, they even started coming in the house. We've moved house now (not because of the spiders!) So it's not my problem anymore!

No I'm in the east, it's been really dry, had to start watering in March!

Errrrr....

Spiders, like mice, rats, beetles, woodlice, slugs, snails and many, many other living things are everywhere and don't just occur in certain locations - unless you want to live in a hermetically sealed box you are inevitably going to be sharing your living space with them, average size new build garden or not.
It is quite bizarre that people expect, or even want, to live in such a sanitised and sterile environment that spiders outside are considered problematic

I don't have a problem with spiders outside. I have a problem with the fact that every surface in my garden; fences, stones, plants, lights, gate handle, doorframes, shed eaves, gravel, gazebo curtains and frame, table and chairs, drains, bins, plants, spaces between everything is covered with a layer of web. It is not a normal level, it is way beyond normal.

I sympathise OP. Things will balance out, spiders have their predators, including other spiders, but they'll always be a lag before they catch up. Should be lots of hungry young birds around now, that'll help.
