An Agriframes Monet pergola with lattice infills. I've been thinking about it for a few months, going backwards and forwards. Bought the arch, absolutely love how it looks. I've now ordered the pergola. I only have a small to medium garden. I'm beyond excited. Now need suggestions of your favourite climbing rise and clematis combinations. Preferably highly scented.

Climbing rose, of curse. I have DA WIH on the arch

Mme Alfred Carriere and a bluish clematis, maybe Perle d'azur

Ah yes. Madame Alfred Carriere is one of my favourites and I don't have one in my current garden. Gorgeous scent and virtually thornless. Grows huge though. Thank you!

I’m not a fan of roses but I loved the Zephrine Drouhan (scented and thornless) I had in my last garden. I had it paired with Pink Fantasy but now I would pair it with Jackmanii for contrast, or a bronze leaf, pink flowered Montana (Tetrarose or Maylene but there are many more) for a longer period of interest.

Souvenir du Dr Jamain (divine colour and scent but fussy as a wet cat, prone to everything, would excuse you for being sensible and not choosing it) and either perpura plena or Princess Diana.

Try and fit in a trachelospermum jasminoides, they are gorgeous.

Saw it in a garden centre the other day, and I'm now trying to figure out where I could put one. Haven't bought it yet, because I am well known for buying things and then having nowhere to plant them!

If it helps you find a spot for it, I read they do well in shade so, after finding one in the clearance section of the nursery, I planted one in a very shaded woodland-like spot (so it gets a tiny bit of dappled light) last autumn and have been very pleased to see some flowers in the last week.

Generous Gardener and Gertrude Jekyll are both gorgeous DA rose with wonderful scent.

I love both clem armandii and montana but they are thugs that tend to swamp everything unless you're very careful. Princess Diana (or the very similar Princess Kate) is a lovely dainty one, or a good old Jackmanii if you want something gloriously showy.

I have a clem. alpina Bredon Blue that's started flowering twice a year for some reason, so get twice as much bang for my buck.

Wow thanks for all the replies! I do love Generous Gardener, and have four in my garden already. I've definitely decided to go for trachelospermum jasminoides, I already have one growing up my shed and love the scent. The location for it is Sputh facing side of my garden, with a lot of sun, so I think any dark red rose will fade.
I might go for a pink or yellow rose. I can plant four, one in each corner, so I'm thinking of just going for a riot of colour. Four roses, four clematis, two jasmines, and then some bright perennials/bulbs on one open side of the pergola, but undecided which ones.
