Please help me identify this - random cutting I took!

See the pictures below. I can't remember where I took it from but I'm pretty sure I grew it from a cutting. It's evergreen and hasn't flowered so far.

Does anyone know what it is please? I don't want to plant it anywhere without knowing if it's invasive, how big it might get etc.

Thanks!

Could it be a Japanese quince? Although I think it would have flowered by now if it was.

Without thinking too hard about it, japanese quince (Chaenomeles) or Pyracantha?

ErrolTheDragon · 20/07/2022 16:08

I can't tell from the photo, is it thorny?

PinkPencilCase · 20/07/2022 16:20

@ErrolTheDragon it does have a few sharp twig ends but it's not thorny along the stem like a rose bush

Thanks for the ideas so far, will look them up...

Looks like a pyracantha to me. They have spiny ends to branches as opposed to thorns along the stem like a rose does

RatherBeRiding · 20/07/2022 16:43

Cotoneaster or pyracantha?

Yes, I thought it looked like one of those spiny ends on the second photo.
Does quince have those?

I think the leaf shape is a bit wrong for Japanese quince, but as I said, I haven’t looked properly

Yamadori · 22/07/2022 15:39

Looks like a pyracantha to me. Leaf shape right, growth habit right, and the new branch appears to be extending with a thorn at the tip.
