Is anyone else just praying for rain?

My lawn is like straw and some of my plants are really struggling. And looking at the weather forecast for the next 10 days, there doesn't appear to be a drop of rain in sight!

Yes! I'm in Italy and we are having a serious drought. I have given up on my window box plants as we can't spare the water.

Caspianberg · 14/07/2022 06:11

Yes it’s pretty dry. All our water butts are completely empty, which is rare.

Im just prioritising fruit and veg really. And every 3 days seems enough that they are still growing ok.

Silvernecklace · 14/07/2022 07:04

We had rain this week. Scotland. ( surprise!! ) It's not even that warm here 😐

hedgehogger1 · 14/07/2022 07:21

Yes. Need some nice night time downpours please

Wildwood6 · 14/07/2022 09:00

Yes! I'm rationing the remaining water in my water butt for the plants that really need it, but my lawn is like dust. I'd absolutely love a few summer storms!

MereDintofPandiculation · 14/07/2022 09:53

Woke up to wet driveway and dripping plants

redfairy · 15/07/2022 17:03

I've just moved house and have brought all my plants in pots with me. I can't get a spade in the ground to create borders so am conserving as much water as I can for the pots. Praying for prolonged rain to soften the ground. @MereDintofPandiculation I don't know where you are but can you send your rain to the Midlands please?

JamMakingWannaBe · 15/07/2022 17:09

Nope. Already rained here today and now the sun is shining brightly. Lawn is looking lush.

Daftasabroom · 15/07/2022 17:11

Yes, but, we've only cut it twice and it looks lovely and green.

Zebra100 · 15/07/2022 17:18

Been chucking it down here in the last hour or so.(Northumberland coast)

MrsJamin · 15/07/2022 17:21

Very crispy here in the south east of England. I wish it would rain but we are set for 40 degrees next week 😩

anxiousatnight · 15/07/2022 17:23

I have a pond in my garden and it's basically dry now, worrying for all of the ecosystems that usually thrive on it

Is anyone else just praying for rain?

I've let the lawn go a bit wild with some clover and longer grasses come through so it's not totally parched but the last few veg plants I've just put in the ground need rewatering each night. Hanging baskets and the few pots are looking a little limp.

gamerchick · 15/07/2022 17:23

Had rain on and off all day here. Glad I don't have to water the garden tonight.

Must admit I'm glad I don't live in the south.

colouringindoors · 15/07/2022 17:24

My garden in SE England is the driest it's ever been. I need to sort a grey water retrieval system.

MintJulia · 15/07/2022 17:26

Grass is really tough. It won't die.

I'm looking forward to a spectacular thunderstorm when this breaks. 🙂

orangeisthenewpuce · 15/07/2022 17:51

Had rain here yesterday and today. Really heavy.

MrsJamin · 15/07/2022 19:28

There's no point in hanging baskets anymore, unless they are succulents that would thrive without being watered. We all need to garden with more respect for how much additional water plants need. I need to plant more drought tolerant plants.

Sofedupofitall · 15/07/2022 19:31

In SE and rain is supposed to come on Wednesday. Not sure how much we are expecting though. Hopefully enough to perk up the lawn that is crunching underfoot.

Norugratsatall · 15/07/2022 19:31

Yep me! Garden is a sorry sight - dry brown dust bowl. One water butt empty the other about a quarter full. We need RAIN!!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 15/07/2022 19:38

Why? This is unusual. Normal it pisses down here.Wrt the environment, south of England is expected to get drier but northern England is expected to get wetter.

SkankingWombat · 15/07/2022 19:59

We used the last of the water from the butts a couple of days ago, so are now onto using the hose. We grow a lot of our own fruit and veg, which will supply a good proportion of our food for the next few months with the excess helping over winter - we really can't afford to let it all go unwatered. The water bill will wipe out a lot of our savings at this rate though! The lawn is brown, but I'm not fussed about that. It'll bounce back in the Autumn. Thankfully a lot of the border plants are well established with deep roots and aren't particularly needy. Ironically I planted 3 hydrangeas in Spring in a shaded muddy clay patch as I haven't managed to get anything else to thrive there due to the lack of heat and sun, and it being constantly waterlogged. They are very very unhappy...
A really good thundery downpour would be amazing 🤞🏻
