What the heck is this?

Not sure if I've posted in the right place.

This past week we keep finding these bugs in our lounge, anyone have any idea what it is? Photo hopefully attached, sorry it's upside down, think it's dead

Also got black flies attracted to my snake plant. Anyone know why this might be and how to get rid of them? I've tried the bowl of vinegar/sugar/washing up liquid, it traps a couple but most stay away and DH wants to get rid of all houseplants to fix it

What the heck is this?

It looks a bit like a tick but the legs are wrong for that.

It's huge, looks a bit like a piece of wood when it's the right way up. Very strange we've had a few of them all in the same week

It’s a may bug. Nothing to worry about. They fly into windows and stun themselves and then due pretty quickly

Die pretty quickly

Is hard to tell from the photo.

If its like a dull-coloured bee, with slight fuzz, it could be a mason bee. If so, be n8ce to them and let them out the window.

If its more of a beetle, with a long head and 'boots' on its feet, then vibe weevil and you don't want that. Repot your pot plants and fhe k fir fat, creamy white grubs in their botying medium.

Thanks all, that does sound like what it is. Still no idea why they keep ending up in my lounge though!

I think it looks like a shield bug. We get them too. They’re rather lovely. I just put them back outside.

Are the black bugs tiny aphis or some sort of fruit flies?
If aphids I would put it outside and spray it with bug killer and leave it outside for a few days til it recovers and bugs are gone.

MereDintofPandiculation · 03/07/2022 09:43

The little black flies sound like fungus gnats, in which case they’ve hatched out from larvae in the soil, and they’re looking for nice humus rich soil to lay their eggs in.

Repot the plant, checking for little transparent larvae. Lay a layer of gravel on top of the soil to deter the broody females.

Could be a vine weevil, but can't see it's head. If it's got a kind off snout, stompy feet and elbowed antenna it's definitely a vine weevil. Their wing cases (though they can't fly) are dark sometimes mottled with green. They leak brownish fluid from their heads if you annoy them enough. Plant pests, particularly those in pots, the larvae (white grubs) eat the roots. Can infest house plants. Leaves can be nibbled at the edges.

Hope I'm wrong.

We've had several daft great may bugs (cockchafers) appear in our lounge over the last week or so. I think the stupid things blunder down the chimney, there's no other way they could have got in.
