Jasmine to cover part of fence

I'm trying to do something with a patch left empty by a removed tree and want something to go against fence.

Decided to put in jasmine instead of a bush and wonder which would be best? I think an evergreen would be good (star jasmine?) and hopefully I could put in smaller shrubs/perennials in front of that. The border will be about one meter deep.

Does this sound realistic? I'm imagining that the jasmine won't be an unruly bush.

It's a fantastic choice. Not the quickest growing but not unruly and is nice to look at year round. It likes lots of sun but I think it's ok with some shade too. You can check the exact variety you are buying. If you can I'd buy a well established plant.

I have jasmine, clematis and honeysuckle. The bees and the butterflies are happy. I probably have a bit more fence to cover though, not just one section.

@Pleaseletmeconfirm - I love the smell too!

@endofagain - do you have the evergreen one? (I presumed that all of them retained foliage during winter but apparently not). And does yours grow very bushy?

I don't think mine is the evergreen one. I will have to check. I planted it years ago and then it got swamped by other shrubs. I have only just cleared the bed and it has started climbing the fence again. I do think an evergreen one would be a good idea though.

I will try to get an evergreen!
