Hi my back garden is very boxy, i have 4 neighbours, with low fences on 2 sides, the other fence at the back is a good height. I would like a more private garden. I would like to plant some evergreen shrubs on both side of my garden which will grow high enough for my garden to be private without blocking light or overgrowing into my neighbours gardens. Ive been googling but its not clear which grow this high. I would appreciate your recomendations. Thanks for your help

Maybe a row of roses up to 2m high, but usually they are not evergreen. Not going to be perfectly private but may improve matters, especially in summer.

Photinia red robin
Cherry laurel
Viburnum tinus
Privet
Are all evergreen and will give a year round screen, but all will take some time to reach 2 metres and grow beyond that height eventually, but can be trimmed to maintain the height required.

Don't surround yourself with dull hedges. Work out where in your garden you want privacy, where you are overlooked from, and plant/create arbours/use parasols accordingly. The article should help but there is loads of advice on the web.

Thanks for the ideas. I am overlooked by 3 houses from both sides. I did look at raising the height of my fences but thought greenery would be nice

I would look at pleached trees- where the branches have been trained to spread out and provide a screen.

I like the pleached trees as i can have flowers & plants underneath & it wont seem as hemmed in

l have a beautiful hedge of Solanum, ( mexican potatoe vine) delicate lilac blue flowers, very pretty, you do have to keep on top of it as grows fast, it does overhang neighbours slightly, l have offered to go round and trim it if it becomes a nuisance but they like it. It does keep it leaves if winter is mild. Hydrangeas are useful, some can grow tall, cherry laurel is also a good choice, bought mine on Ebay and doing really well.
