Oh I'm glad someone mentioned the colours in the catalogue. I bought a rose called Ferdinand Pichard from her. It looked more purple in her photo (first photo) but is actually more pink (second photo). Every other photo on the internet accurately reflects the colour I ended up with. Still beautiful and after settling in with just two flowers in year one. It exploded in flowers repeatedly the second year.

I have no idea who Sarah Raven is, and I have no interest in gardening, but bloody hell that rose is so so beautiful!

Does anyone else get the impression they spent the last series effectively interviewing Monty's replacement for main presenter?
I thought that they said several years ago that Monty was going. It does seem to be a long, drawn-out process.
Are they hoping to keep him 'in the fold' so that the website can continue using all those clips of him?

SnapdragonToadflax · 25/02/2024 22:04

Joe Swift has just bought a rural house with a large garden which needs quite a lot of work - I've wondered if he's aiming at GW presenting, having left London.

I like Frances best, but she has a tiny and rather difficult garden. Maybe they'll do more of visiting other gardens rather than centering the programme on the presenter's garden?

As far as Sarah Raven goes, I've mostly had success but one of my ammi plug plants last year was a weed, and it took some persistence to get a refund. Arthur Parkinson is very keen on being Arthur Parkinson.

I like Monty but do feel his garden is a bit like a stately home-most of the stuff he does isn’t terribly relevant in my garden. I’d like more basic stuff I think. I do like Frances and Adam though.

shearwater2 · 26/02/2024 05:59

I've wanted Frances to present it for years.

Exactly. He has a bloody team helping him. And with the stuff which might be helpful, Longmeadow is always a week or two weeks behind weather/season wise for me, I've already done the tasks for the week ahead! It's just garden porn, not relevant or helpful. I've always found Beechgrove much more sensible and down to earth proper gardening.

shearwater2 · 26/02/2024 06:08

And I don't particularly like him either.

I thought Sarah Raven was just a brand/shop. Have bought plants from there but have obviously been oblivious to any advice or personality behind it.

I went to one of her workshop things a while ago, friends clubbed together and bought it for me for a special birthday. She delivered it - and was wholly forgettable. I asked one question and the answer was crap. The lunch was decent tho. 😄

The customer service is variable. I had some very bad plants delivered and it took them 2 weeks to reply and when they did and refunded me they then wanted to refund me again a week later.

But a more recent complaint about a bad plant got an almost immediate reply. Get a grip Sarah!

Some recent plants were excellent by the way, and I still love the varieties that she stocks.

@whipwhippetreal massive revival of very old thread but ai have just stumbled across your post about your Ferdinand Pichard. I have one of these - bred by David Austin who have since retired it as they said it was not hardy or resilient enough for mass sale. And i have to say mine is not thriving Confused. Is yours looking great?? I might have to get an SR one. I went to her house st Perch Hill this summer and she had some of these in bloom and they looked fabulously healthy!

I think she has nice styling ideas, but I like Hayloft and Crocus for mail order.

I agree; I like Hayloft and Farmer Gracy.

AnnieSnap · 08/07/2024 21:57

Crocus and Farmer Gracy are my go to suppliers in recent years. Crocus has the widest range and I have never had anything, but excellent quality from them. Farmer Gracy are where I get my bulbs.

I got some dahlias from Sarah Raven two weeks ago. Well packaged, quick delivery and decent plants.

Far too expensive at full price and her sweet peas and zinnia seeds didn’t germinate this year!
