Rescuing a hedge from ivy?

Hi I hope some MN garden experts can advise, my neighbours love ivy and have let it climb all over their house, shed and garden. It's now come through our shared stone fence and unbeknown to me all winter has been stealthily strangling my hedge, creeping itself forward. Since spring I've been cutting it back as best I can but today I got really cross and cut loads out. Behind it is nothing (pics attached) it's basically all ivy that shows and behind it is just old dead hedge and branches. Is there anyway of saving and encouraging what's left of my hedge, or do I now have to accept that my hedge is made of ivy? Is there a special type of gardener/hedge expert who can potentially sort this mess? I asked my regular gardener for tips but he just shrugged.

I think that hedge will regenerate if it’s clear of ivy, it’s certainly the first thing to try. So get rid of every last scrap of ivy, then watch it like a hawk and pull any new shoot that appears. If the ivy were just in the hedge, this would get rid of it completely in a few years, but since there’s a reservoir next door you’ll need to resign yourself to a perpetual need to chop shoots.

Ivy doesn’t tend to root terribly deeply, and you can easily rip out great strings of it. Very satisfying if you are in a bad mood and need to vent!
Once you’ve pulled everything visible, give the hedge roots a good feed with compost or water in a liquid feed to encourage some regrowth. Give it the rest of this season to see if it’s still alive, then consider replanting in the autumn if not.

Meant to add, keep the ivy well away from your house. Mine forced its way through the woodwork under the study window, and I found a waving tendril growing inside!
