A tree that grows quickly, doesn't get too big or can be easily maintained height wise, not toxic to dogs, offers shade in the summer to dogs, isn't too messy, isn't rigid looking and looks lovely!

Flamingo trees stay quite small height wise and can be easily maintained. Lovely pinky leaves at this time of year.

Acer. So many varieties which grow to different heights.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 13/06/2022 14:49

Amelancier

Crabapple

Dogwood

Titterofwit · 13/06/2022 14:49

Rowan. Pretty ,not too big and light foliage so doesnt take over the space.

BadAtMaths2 · 13/06/2022 14:57

Amelanchier or Rowan

ElenaSt · 13/06/2022 15:36

Thank you.

Just looked at a Cornus kousa 'Shira-yuki'' Flowering dogwood, Szechuan strawberry which looks very pretty.

Still undecided. Like the Rowan as well.

Try catalpa or magnolia, we've had both and really liked them

LemonSwan · 13/06/2022 16:08

Rowan is toxic to dogs

daisypond · 13/06/2022 16:09

Sorbus. There are lots of different kinds.

I'd go for acer or salix flamingo preferably. This is my 3yr old salix

I planted a crab apple tree this year and it looks very pretty. It's a little thing at the moment and won't grow too big. The problem with fast growing trees is they will always be fast growing and that might be a problem in the future. I'm hoping to plant an amelanchier or cornus Eddie's Wonder, and I'm eyeing up this which I saw on Gardeners World this week: www.rhs.org.uk/plants/93812/crataegus-laevigata-paul-s-scarlet-(d)/details

I would grow a role leafed plum. It can be pruned back if it gets too big, and has beautiful leaves and blossom

brighteyesburninglikefire · 14/06/2022 08:00

Purple not role

We have ordered a birch tree!

Betula snow queen as it doesn't grow as tall as a silver birch.

'Betula utilis 'Snow Queen' is a fast-growing, medium-sized tree with dazzling, white, peeling bark which appears pale orange when freshly exposed.

As with all Birch trees, this tree will be a year round asset to your garden. In spring, vibrant yellow catkins appear amongst the fresh green foliage: the leaves are serrated at the edges and they make the perfect foil for the golden catkins.

Come autumn, the leaves turn to deep shades of yellow and buttery bronze before falling. In winter, the true beauty of the bark can be appreciated, and the graceful skeleton of the tree can be fully admired.'

That’s such a good choice. Lovely in winter too and you can underplant with spring bulbs. I’m trying to work out how I can fit one in….(I can’t).

The Snow Queen is a great choise!!! we have one in our garden, and we also have I believe a plant called Salix Integra, it's also very similar and fit the description of what you asked in the first question. I recommend it as an addition to the snow queen :)
