Reasonably priced outdoor planters

Have just moved from a flat to a house and now I have a front and back garden. There’s a lot of work needed in the house but I’ve been really wanting to do some gardening and need some pots.

I’m on a limited budget, where can I find inexpensive outdoor planters? Aldi had some lovely black and grey ones a while ago but I didn’t buy in case house purchase didn’t work out and now I’m regretting it!

I usually find the cheaper ones are in Aldi or Wilkos but they are not necessarily lovely looking. I also got some really big black plastic half barrel ones from Amazon in the first lockdown, again not much to look at but really useful. I also had a bargain nice one from Homebase last summer but overall they are pretty expensive!

Home bargains, Lidl and sometimes H&M home

Our local recycling centre (skip) has a little stall where it sells stuff that is too good to skip. I pop along occasionally and have picked up a fair few pots for a couple of quid each, also gardening tools. Sometimes they don't have anything, but worth a look. Yours might do similar.

My nicest pots are colourful ceramic ones from Dobbies, better for the environment than the plastic ones and look lovely. Not hugely more expensive

I try to buy most garden related things locally on FB marketplace. People change their colour schemes so often I'm sure you'll find them reasonable

If you have a TK Max or a Homesense they often have lovely pots very reasonably priced.

or one alternative which I’ve done this year is to use galvanised pails/buckets, with holes drilled in the bottom. They look fab, really cheap, and slugs/snails can’t climb up as they hate the metal. My hostas are roaring away in them.

can take a pic later if you want, when I get out of bed !!

wilko sell them for £6 each

B&Q has a big selection. My local B&M has quite a big outdoor section with cheap plants and pots too.

I’ve been on the hunt for pots and stuff lately. I’m aiming for a messy, cottagey garden.

I got some big stone ones from a local reclamation yard for the same price as the big plastic ones in B&Q

Car boot sale had loads.
