My potted hydrangea is dying!

I bought a hydrangea last week and put it in a big pot in a sunny side of my garden. I also gave it some plant food. Had lots of rain since it was planted. It's now nearly dead! Completely wilting. What have I done wrong? Can I save it?

I have lots of hydrangers in very large pots, usually they are no trouble but l noticed several of them have discoloured leaves, when l googled it, it said could be overwatering, or overfeeding, so l am just leaving them be for now and hoping they recover. Shame because l have had them years and they are a good size, normally they are such easy plants to grow, not sure if the frost may have got at them earlier on, but never had this problem before.

Sorry to jump on your threap OP but I'm having same problem with one I bought from a local greengrocer. It was beautiful 2 days ago and now look at it.

I'm not greenfingered at all but my friend convinced me to buy it for my new house / garden. The soil is a clay based and I didn't have any extra compost to back fill. I watered it well after planting and it's on the SW side of South facing garden so gets full sun all afternoon until about 6pm. It rained on and off yesterday but has been dry today. Do in you think it will survive?

Too much sun. It's like me in Dubai, wilting. Can you move to another spot where it gets early morning sun ? Nothing too fierce.

Does that mean it does need ericaceous soil or it doesn't?
Blush

Yes, they prefer acidic (ericaceous) soil.

These are meant to be flowering yet. They've been forced in hot greenhouses and it's a shock to be outside in the garden. They'll probably be fine next year when they flower at the usual time naturally.
