Are these too close together? (Pic)

I planted a ceonothus, jasmine, hydrangea and hebe today. I left maybe 20-30cm between each. I could have left more, but it would've required pulling up some Pulmonaria which I was reluctant to do.

But now I'm worried I've not left nearly enough space for them to grow! Should I dig them up tomorrow and space out more?

Help! (I'm new to having a garden, can you tell?)

@MereDintofPandiculation - what kind of hebe do you have that is 2m tall?!

This is my ceonothus: looks relatively (?) compact? www.crocus.co.uk/plants/_/ceanothus-skylark/classid.728/

The jasmine is concerning, it has to be said - www.crocus.co.uk/plants/_/osmanthus-delavayi/classid.4173/ I was confused as the description said this was quite compact! Perhaps I'll move it on in a year or two? There's really nowhere to move it right now apart from the back of the garden, which is currently a wilder part, and it doesn't get a lot of sun.

The jasmine is a climber. Not sure how you move it later as its tendrils will be entwined in whatever it is climbing ( I can’t see well from the picture but assume there is trellis or obelisk or pergola to cling on to? ) could you buy a very large pot and put an obelisk in and let it grow there?

posalie · 22/05/2022 07:40

@butterflyfox is it a climber? It doesn't actually say in the description. I know some jasmines are, but is this one?

@posalie that is Osmanthus, so not Jasmine, although the flowers are jasmine-like, shrub that can grow to 4 metres tall (12 feet).

It also says that the eventual spread is 2m. So you need the eventual outside edge of the adjoining shrubs to be 1m from where you plant this one.

Not a clue. I’m not especially interested in them so haven’t remembered which one. Biggish (for a hebe) leaves, bluish purple flowers. I can’t reach the top of it.

posalie · 22/05/2022 10:03

Ah it's not a jasmine! So not a climber then? Thank god.

Yes I stand corrected. Apologies. I read jasmine and did not click the link to see it isOsmanthus.
