I need an evergreen shrub/tree/bush that won't grow much more than 12-15 feet?

Any suggestions?

It's on the northern side of a shed wall for the first 6 feet or so.
Happy to spend £50 ish to get a more mature plant.
Thanks

Variegated holly?

I've bought a dwarf lilac tree for my North facing garden. It's 3 years old, grows fast, evergreen and has gorgeous purple blooms around Easter then again in September. It's also very Hardy and hard to kill!

I bought it from gardening express.

Sarcoccus thrives in dry shade but doesnt get taller than about 4 ft. Smells gorgeous in February.

Elaeagnus. I haven't managed to kill ours and it's just needs a trim about twice a year

I should have been clearer, I need a plant that gets to roughly 12-15 feet to give privacy from neighbour and fill a gap, but I don't want anything that gets much bigger than that.

Be aware that when a plant/tree size is shown that normally means it reaches that size after about 10 years - it wont actually stop growing at that point though so you will still have to maintain and prune it if you dont want it to get any bigger.

you could try pleached trees which have a long trunk and are then trained to grow horizontal higher up?

What is your soil like? I have a camellia about that size which makes a perfect screen as it's so dense and evergreen, but they prefer acidic soil. Same goes for rhododendron which can get that big and like shade.

MrsBertBibby · 17/05/2022 14:57

I was going to suggest camellia.

Or a daphne, like Jaqueline Postill?

How big a space would it have?

MoonGoon · 18/05/2022 15:06

The soil isn't amazing, London clay.
It'll have a space of about 3 meters in diameter.

Pinkywoo · 18/05/2022 16:14

In that case maybe a holly? It would be a privacy screen and a prickly nosing over the fence deterrent!

I have a camellia in semi shade north facing garden and London clay soil. It was planted last year and thriving!

Camellia sounds like a good shout to me, or perhaps an evergreen viburnum? I am toying with the idea of one of these

MrsBertBibby · 19/05/2022 10:52

Oops posted too soon, that's a deciduous viburnum, there are lots of evergreen varieties around.

averythinline · 19/05/2022 10:53

Camelia or Holly would be my automatic responses both grow well in my London rubbish soil...

Not sure a shrub would get high enough but buddlia can be fairly indestructible.... whatever you do not eucalyptus or bamboo or cypress type ...

Possibly a tree on a dwarf/short rootstock?
