Hi,

I'm pretty new to gardening. Have grown some aquilegias, giant delphiniums , Hollyhocks which are getting pretty battered by the wind.

Will they benefit from those metal supports? Are they any good/would help this sort of plant?

Thank so much

Depending on the height of those, they may not be tall enough for plants like delphiniums which really need the flowering stem to be supported as they are so heavy.
I've some delphiniums which are doing really well, and whilst I've staked the leafy stems because they're so tall, I'm now thinking about supporting the flower stems so they don't get bent over by strong winds.
Sorry to go on at length, but hopefully you will get what I mean! Smile

If you have the opportunity, you can find an established privet (or some other type) hedge and cut away a thick stem from the base and or fallen branches with thickets of twigs on the ends This way it looks more natural in the garden than spending lots of money for metal plant supports. Or even cheaper buy some willow stems (online you'll find them easy) and tie them in a wigwam .

Hi Op I have those plants supports, they also do spiral climbing/taller ones. I got mine from QVC so take a look on there.

I find that sort of support really good for clumps of flowering plants, I've got a few sizes and heights. The trick is to remember to get them in place before the plants start flopping! Really tall plants like hollyhocks might need something more like a stake.

Thanks so much

I think I need to learn how to stake things properly. @irridium I saved some long dried out twigs from when I cut back a huge buddleia and tried to use those but it didn't really help

Will try again and also buy a few supports too

Thanks again everyone
