Selling plants from the driveway

Hi, Has anyone had much success selling things like plants, flowers, fruit/veg, jams, etc on their driveway?
Since we moved from a busy road to a quieter road but with lots of walkers going up and down, it's something that I'd quite like to try. I love buying things people have grown or made from their homes so I'd just like to hear some experiences of this. Thank you Smile

I think it depends on your area, my mum has neighbors in her small village who have honesty boxes and people sell plants, eggs and veggies and money is left in the box.

We have several of these in our village and it seems to work well. The last village I lived in had a wonderful stall including beautiful cut flowers but it was vandalised a couple of times and the money was stolen and they clearly got fed up and stopped.

I only buy our eggs from a stall in our village as they are truly free range and nothing beats them!

In the lockdowns, especially the first one I made a useful amount (and used up masses of old redundant plant pots) selling (quite sturdy several inches tall) tomato plants for £1, and £2 for bigger ones. We are in a very popular walking area near where people park to walk and a bout 5 mins from a pub, so quite a captive market with people walking both ways. Am doing same again this year.

A friend does this for a charity she supports , she is well known in the area for the charity and for other gardening activities and is known for growing interesting plants. She leaves a few of those little plastic money bags on the table , which is inside her gate not on the street, and people post them back through her door , which is wooden so no tempting cash on view.

I screwed a metal cash box with a slot to a sturdy fence when I did it as a money container. I've also seen a sort of shute made of drainpipe, going through a hedge into a presumable safe, inaccessible place, which I thought was very ingenious

Someone in our village sells spider plants on their driveway. My DH bought one for £1.50. Not bad for a plant that propagates so easily. I'd start with something similarly cheap to test the waters.

We also have a local allotment where they sell excess plants for a pound each with proceeds going to a local hospice. I've picked up cucumbers, tomatoes and squash seedlings from there. The best part is the end of season when they sell huge pallets of ripe tomatoes for a fiver. It's very popular with locals and can take a few walks to get there when there are still some available. I made a couple of litres of roasted tomato sauce last year and it was well worth it.

Thank you for your ideas and experiences. Quite looking forward to trying it out. Might even do it for charity.
