We've got 4 fairly large hydrangeas - last year I apparently beheaded them too early and there was mass death of leaves and new buds in that long period of heavy frosts we had in April.
Most of the dead heads of the flowers that bloomed last year took themselves off over the winter but there are still a few. I haven't pruned the remainder yet.
I've noticed that the new leaves have started going brown again and some of the tiny new flower heads have died.
Not sure what to do - do I just prune the remains of last year's heads or is it worth taking off those baby heads that are already brown? Or more?
Also is it lack of water rather than cold that is doing this to them? I've been giving them a little extra water recently but not sure if it's helping at all.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
