Does anyone know what this might be? DH Google Lensed it, and got fly honeysuckle. I'm not sure.

If the leaves are alternate rather than in opposite pairs along the stem, that would rule out all honeysuckles. Bit hard to id at the moment, the. growth is new, and there’s an awful lot of things with simple oval leaves.

Thanks, I'll wait and let it grow a bit more!

Clematis?

I'd love it to be a clematis! It self-seeded, I'm not sure if that might help to identify it.

I would say it's Weigela. But a lot of shrubs look similar to that at first.
The stem is very red though.

Going by the glossy leaves (are they kind of thick leaves or more papery?) I'd say something like camellia. The leaves are yellowing a bit too which suggests to me that it's not happy is the soil it's in (camellias need ericaceous).

Fly honeysuckle is native to the USA and Canada, so Google has probably matched it to the first thing that looked remotely familiar.
