Wisteria on decking ( with metal frame)

Would this work? Love wisteria bit I am a bit daunted by growing it up tje house due to structural damage.
We have a wooden fence/ rails on our decking that needs softening up with flowers . I was thinking if i built a strong metal fence/ frame in front of it to support the weight could I train the wisyetia over it? It's not very high (1.5m) so tje wisteria would be easier to prune. I am a beginner at this. Any thoughts/ tips?
Plus i am getting mixed messages from the internet about root invasiveness. Are the roots going to damage the decking or can i plant it in a pot?

I grow mine in a very large planter, I couldn’t put it in the ground due to drain pipes. It’s quite happy on the south facing wall.

Great news...how big is your planter? Can the climbing be curtailed?

Wisteria won’t cause structural damage it’s not like ivy.

That's good news Gardening Dream. I might start with one on the south facing decking then try it on the north facing front ( i understand north facing is not ideal).

Wisteria wont damage a wall but they do put out long shoots once they get going which can go up under tiles but as long as you prune it this is easily controlled. They can get very big so it would need to be a strong frame to support it like this

Me again, the planter is a round 55cm diameter and about the same in height. I plant annuals around the base of the wisteria.

Ok great...if i want it to flower sooner rather than later how mature does the tree need to be?

My experience with wisteria is not you need a very strong frame, I’ve grown it up the front of my house.I grew it up a bamboo cane and then we just strung some wire all the way along, with a nail either end and one in the middle. It’s perfectly happy there and covers about forty feet now.
