I moved into new house at the end of last summer and inherited a garden full of all sorts so I'm just watching to see what pops up this spring. This is something I don't recognise, is it familiar to anyone?

Looks like a peony?

Christienne · 02/04/2022 15:06

Yup… PlantNet app says it’s a cottage peony.

Chishnfips · 02/04/2022 15:14

Oh wow really, I'm so thrilled I've always wanted a peony.

Lucky you! Whatever you do don’t move it unless you have to and if you do wait until autumn. Apparently they don’t like being dislodged. There was one in my first garden, I moved it, it died, I waited for years hoping it was just sulking……. It wasn’t.

Stake it soon OP, don’t wait till it’s tall and toppling.

Will do, thanks @SockFluffInTheBath

Isn't nature so clever?

Chishnfips · 03/04/2022 12:08

Oh my gosh I've just found another oneShock

@bestbefore nature is amazing. I've no idea how this one is coming back to life its coming up through a load of gravel and ivy and next to a wall. I thought peonys were precious and fussy to grow.

I've got some which were here when we moved in in 1997 and still come up and vanish each year! Trouble is it often seems to rain when they're in bloom and they loose their petals Angry
