Growing Verbena Bonariensis from seed

Hello, I'd appreciate some advice on growing Verbena Bonariensis from seed. It seems to say online that the best way to grow them is to sow and keep indoors at around 24 degrees. It says alternatively to sow them outside.

I'd prefer to just grow them outside. Has anyone done this with success?

Yes! I just sowed direct after watching Gardeners World last year. They were fine and hopefully will have self seeded this year.

I haven't intentionally sowed them, but have had a few plants dug up from my mums garden which have self seeded all over my garden and gravel driveway.

Last year I had a bit of a clear out and dug up stacks. I've got about 30 in pots, transplanted about 40 to different parts of my garden and threw out probably as many again - half of which my dad then rescued from my green bin. And I still have the growing in the drive.

So I'd say try sowing them directly!

I sowed in modules but fairly sure it was outside. I also (as I thought they hadn't germinated) bought a load of plug plants on offer from T&M - the sown ones caught up really quickly.

Waiting to see if they've self sown as I have wet clay soil and not had much luck with them self sowing...

Mine grow in every crack and flowerbed, all self seeded so I doubt you'll have any problem.
They are glorious and I love them but so prolific I have to weed them out.

They seem to happily self seed in the garden but I did grow a load from seed I'd collected too. Took forever to germinate, inside but then easy

I'll give it a go growing them outside. Thanks for the replies.

I’m going to try growing them outside too this year. I am rubbish at growing stuff from seed indoors anyway. Like others, when I’ve bought plants they have self seeded fairly easily so 🤞
