Water bowls

I love the look of this. I've never had a water feature of any type, is it as simple as filling it water and leaving it be? Or will I end up with sludgy soup in a fortnight?

It will go green in no time if left untreated. The supplier should be able to recommend something suitable to put in the water.

You need to consider the rusting period too

And you can get anti algae treatments to limit algae.

Also if you live in a hard water area, rain rather than tap water is best to avoid limescale.

Hmm, I'd rather not have to put mucking about with chemicals (not after the 'my friend wants to use my swimming pool' thread Grin).

How deep does a water container need to be to plant aquatic plants in it? And what's upkeep like for those?

The anti algae thing is microorganisms I believe.

Ah, right, that sounds more like it. I know water in a garden is great for wildlife, but does it count if it doesn't have plants in it? I just love the look of bowls and zinc troughs on gravel.

Check the anti algae thing, most of them will kill any pond creatures as well. Probably not very good for birds and mammals either
