Yellow patches on grass from dog wee/dog toilet??

Hi, we have 2 female dogs whose preference for going to the toilet is on our grass unfortunately. This has left us with many yellow patches in the grass and this grass now appears to be dying. Does anyone have any good ideas about how to prevent this or repair these patches? I’ve seen the things you add to the dogs’ water but not sure if I fancy that or not. Alternatively, does anyone have any experience with creating a dog toilet with artificial grass or anything else? There are variations on-line but I’m worried they will smell or the dogs won’t take to them. Thank you for any advice!

Always had dogs, hot 2 sitting on the bed with me now. It doesn't kill the grass
Dog toilet, waste of money. I know your meant to get them to use one patch, have never managed it
Did try the safe stuff in water, they didn't like the taste. I have one bitch, only "cure" is keeping watering can at the ready, pour over as soon as she pees to neutralise

There is nothing you can add. It's the high level of nitrogen in the pee that burns the grass - nitrogen is also a fertiliser which is why the edges of the pee burns tend to be a ring of lush grass, because that bit received somewhat dilluted pee. Males and females burn grass but females tend to do it more simply because they tend to crouch to pee and thus deliver a concentrated shot of pee in one spot; males tend to cock their legs and sprinkle it about a bit more.

You can rake out the burns and reseed them.

It also helps if we have a damp year because then the soil is holding an amount of water that dillutes the pee as it drops. With that in mind, dumping a half bucket of water on top of the pee as soon as it's done make help.

Or growing a lawn that is tolerant of high levels of nitrogen (e.g. clover).

If you created a dog toilet with artificial grass then expect to go back to puppy basics to reteach them to use that spot. Just like you may have done when they were very little: taking them there regularly through the day and praising when they pee there.

I have a bucket of water ready on the patio by the door - as soon as the dog goes out and finishes, I pour it over the patch on the lawn where she has been, then refill the bucket. It works well as I have never had any brown patches on the lawn.
I did once house-sit to look after a dog who had something added to their drinking water (some sort of rock type thing). The dog avoided that drinking water if it could - even preferring muddy puddles if it could reach them, so I wouldn't ever use that for a dog of mine.

We had a gorgeous lawn until we got our male dog, who created a stepping stone effect of dead grass all over the place the first year we had him. I once counted 35 dead patches, which looked like 35 stepping stones on our lawn!

The second year, we tried to water whenever he had a wee. Better but still not great. Maybe 5-6 big patches at any one time.

Since last year we’ve been taking him out for a wee on our drive at regular intervals. He’s learned exactly where to go. Kept him on a lead for this due to proximity of busy road. So basically we have to toilet him at the front of the house before allowing him into the back. Especially in the morning.

Pain in the backside, but does help the lawn in summer.

I think it’s kind of ‘put up ‘ with it if you have a dog. We tried the dog rocks and they didn’t work, we do the watering can now which works ok, but you do miss bits. Plus my DH rakes out the patches regularly and reseeds them.

@PrincessmardybumWe use ‘dog rocks’ they are stones you put in their water and it stops the yellowing of grass/plants and completely harmless for your dog.really simple solution that works.you can get them on eBay or Amazon.
