What the piddle sticks is this plant, please?

I have several shoots of this plant growing at the front of my raised bed. I've tried a couple of plant identifier apps but they all tell me different things.

What the bloody hell is it? It's quite pretty but no idea if its invasive or poisonous or how long it'll last or whether it'll spread.

Can anyone help me!

What the piddle sticks is this plant, please?

I should have said that the label just behind it is for a different plant before anyone suggests I just read the label Grin

Umbrella Plant - the leaves will appear after the flowers

Beekeeper1 · 24/03/2022 13:31

It looks very much like Butterbur, a native wild flower and member of the Coltsfoot family - grows primarily in damp shady conditions, by ponds and along river banks. Can be invasive and produces rhizomes which travel underground to produce new plants, much like Ground Elder.
Caveat though, I would have expected the leaves (large and rhubarb like ) to be visiblr by now so not 100% sure of my ID

It could be, but no leaves yet. And my raised bed isn't particularly shady or damp.

One of the Umbelliferae

ODFOx · 24/03/2022 14:31

That's what you get if you cross a hyacinth with a triffid.
A triffacinth.

Don't joke... I have some hyacinths in my front garden that have gone wild. They are huge!

My plant app says it's garden valerian, which looks about right if you Google for images of it.

Bonbon21 · 24/03/2022 14:40

Petasites. Leaves will appear after flowering..likes damp conditions.

ThisisMax · 24/03/2022 15:01

Yep.
Also known as Umbrella Plant OP Wink

ThisisMax · 24/03/2022 15:28

@DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat

I only work in latin Wink

ErrolTheDragon · 24/03/2022 15:35

There's a few different things known as 'umbrella plant'

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umbrella_plant
The common houseplant one is schefflera

Yours looks amazing - much prettier than butterbur which is quite a weird looking thing as it erupts by riverbanks round here!

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 24/03/2022 15:50

So that’s what I have growing in my garden! Thank you OP and @ThisisMax 😀
I definitely never planted it so it’s been a complete mystery to me!
You have made my day 🙏

IceIceBabyBump · 24/03/2022 16:26

Oh wow, that's it!

Thank you!

And I know the common and the Latin names too. Not bad considering I had no ideas this morning.

@YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp Happy to help. Not that I did much. I'm the same, I didn't plant it. It just kind of appeared. It's in a really nice location right on the corner/edge of the planter so it looks planned/planted Grin

This is a single stem though, and the OP's plant is branching?

ThisisMax · 24/03/2022 16:50

@Whitney168 Its sending up new shoots - typical of it - it spreads this way in damp soil.
