Starting summer bulbs in pots?

Just wondering if there’s and benefit to starting off bulbs in pots in the greenhouse? I planted most of mine straight in the ground last year, some came up and others didn’t and I forgot what I planted where. Would it be better if I started them off in pots and then planted out once they have started to get leafs?

I don't as I usually find I don't have enough room in the border to do that once everything has grown up. But if you will do have space then why not - at least you'll know where they are and they will start a bit ealier.

There are some I grow in pots as I know they are a bit tender - like acidenthra.

I also take them still in the pots and pop them in the border if there's a bit where I've cut something down - so I can squeeze a pot in but I'm not having to dig down to create enough space.

MOstly though I find it easiest to plant them. With some bulbs I put a bit of grit in the planting hole to help with drainage if your garden is a bit damp over winter. Also a bit of chicken wire can discourage squirrels which seems to be the main cause of bulbs disappearing.
