I think I am at the stage where I will need to pay for a gardener. Can I ask what is the average hourly rate. I have no idea how much a gardener would charge. I am in the Bristol area. Many thanks.

I can't really say how much one would cost in Bristol, but in my area (Midlands) I've been quoted anywhere from 15 per hour to 25 an hour.

However my biggest problem is finding anyone who will actually do the work! I've had 2 people come a couple of times and then never heard from them again and many who I have contacted for a quote, but who have never got back to me Sad
Hope you manage to find someone!

Do you need a local yokel in a flat cap to come and cut the grass and potter about pruning things for an afternoon a week, or do you want a load of work doing, say monthly?

We pay 24 an hour for our gardener and her husband (so 48 for them both), they come for two hours fortnightly. He does all the grass cutting, weed clearing etc, she does the pruning, plant care, planting etc as needed. RHS trained and keeps up with studying and training. Worth every penny as if she isn't sure what needs to be done with a particular plant, she will speak to her professor/other experts to find out and she's always happy to recommend plants etc for different areas of the garden.

Ideally I would have someone who is qualified, so would expect to pay a premium.

I think I need more than an afternoon a week. During the summer I think monthly would be too long between grass cuts. Monthly would be fine for the winter months.
