Just coming through, somewhat sheltered spot in Edinburgh if that helps.

Looks like it may be Tulips?

Crumbs22 · 03/03/2022 09:18

Looks like tulips to me too, maybe ones with 'stripey' flowers, I have similar ones in my garden and love them.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 03/03/2022 09:19

Snake Plant is aka Mother In Law's Tongue isn't it?

So from the photo angle I can see why it came up with that.

But yeah, probably tulips I'd say

helpfulperson · 03/03/2022 09:21

Try taking another photo from a different angle and see what it says. I can see why an app might think snake plant but I agree tulips is more likely.

Namechangeforthis88 · 03/03/2022 09:26

Fab, tulips is far and away the most likely. We moved in last summer so have never seen the garden in spring. I thought it would be something pretty obvious but I have never had tulips. Thanks very much everyone.

Maybe a hosta if not tulips

I think hosta too. I love hosta's but never have any luck with them....damn slugs.
OohRahhMaki · 03/03/2022 13:53

It is too early for Hostas to be shooting like that up here in Scotland! Another vote for tulips.

astersugar · 03/03/2022 14:12

Glad you asked this as I've planted a lot of spring bulbs and can't remember what's what. I've got some like this in my garden so they must be my new tulips.

Namechangeforthis88 · 03/03/2022 16:44

I did think they looked like hostas as well but we moved in late August, I think there would have been evidence of hostas then if that's what they were, and there wasn't. You weren't to know that, hosta guessers.

@userxx my mum has hostas in tall terracotta planters (possibly with copper tape around and those feet that raise the planter off the ground) and people always remark that they don't seem to suffer from slugs.

the texture of a hosta leaf and tulip is quite different. tulip leaves are thick and firm, hosta thin and pliable.
i can understand why and app would say snake but i'm betting on team tulip.

I'll look into taller planters, thanks for the tip 👍

ShowOfHands · 03/03/2022 21:27

I spray my hostas with garlic water. They're just in the ground. The slugs don't go near them.

Beebumble2 · 04/03/2022 10:53

They’re Tulips, there are a varieties of tulips that have striped leaves.
