Fruit trees for small garden

I’ve decided to get a couple of fruit trees for our smallish garden. Could anyone recommend any particular varieties that are either dwarf or don’t get too big please?

We like apples, pears, peaches, nectarines, and lemons.

We already have a fig and blueberry.

The size of apples and pears is governed by the rootstock, so go for a dwarfing rootstock for a small tree. Google to find which one.

Lemons probably won’t survive the winter so will need to be in a pot to bring inside.

Some places like Marshalls do patio fruit frees which you can keep in pots. We've got a cherry and it's great. Obviously if you increase the size of the pot a lot or put it in the ground they'll get larger.

Apples and pears grown on an M27 rootstock will remain small.

I've been looking for an apple tree for someone I know and it seems that a lot of companies are selling out very quickly this year, so don't wait, get them while you can.

Orange Pippin Fruit Trees are brilliant for figuring out which fruit tree to buy and have masses of information. www.orangepippintrees.co.uk

Depending on your space and how much fruit you want, you could also consider growing as trained shapes. So apples and pears as cordons, or nectarine/peach as fan trained.

I got 4 fruit trees for £6 each in Tesco yesterday, to add to my garden. Will keep them a manageable size through pruning. Got 2x cherry, a plum and a pear, although they had a good choice including a few apple varieties
