Took a couple of pics of these lovely planters in London’s Coal Drop Yard. I see the silver birch but if anyone recognises the exact grass.

Also this green shrub was thriving everywhere, I loved it.

The grass looks like Bronze Carex, very easy to grow and propagate from seed. The green shrub is a Choisya, there are several varieties, but that looks like Ternata, probably the most common.
The last one looks like a Rowan, Mountain Ash, but the multi stems suggest it’s been pruned to keep it small.

The first one is Michael fabricants hair

The last one is a nandina domestica, also known as heavenly bamboo.

And I think the middle one is Pittosporum tobira. Weirdly I'd looked it up yesterday as I saw a nice one locally. Is this it? www.crocus.co.uk/plants/_/pittosporum-tobira-nanum/classid.2000038528/

I’ve never seen a bronze carex that’s as droopy as that, but storm Eunice may have a lot to answer for! I agree that the middle plant is pittosporum and the last one is nandina domestica. I’m still sad that mine died before producing those lovely berries.

Gardeniafleur · 23/02/2022 20:51

Wow, thank you so much! Does the carex spread if you put it in the ground?

Looking again I revise my suggestion for the middle picture to agree with others.
My Bronze Carex does get to be a bigger clump, which you can divide, but I have found that little seedings pop up everywhere and can be transplanted to where you want them to grow.

Agree it looks like Carex comans. Carex is a sedge, different family from the grasses (different flower structure). They can often be more shade tolerant - useful plants.

Not sure about 2nd but don’t think it’s Chiosya - I can’t see that it’s leaves are divided into 3 leaflets. Nandina for the third.

TalesOfDrunkennessAndCruelty · 24/02/2022 09:59

I’m sure the second one isn’t a Choisya. Its leaf shape and rather sprawling shape just look wrong - but very much like the pittosporum tobira in WobblyLondoner’s link.
