Cat deterrent advice?

I'm brand new to gardening, we bought a house with raised beds and I was hoping to plant some vegetable seeds however there are 3 cats visiting daily and shamelessly using them as a giant litter tray - any ideas for how to get them to stop?

Don't mind them visiting, I love cats, we have our own (elderly, indoors - she is possibly why they are coming around so often) but I'm not enjoying the gifts they are leaving!

The only thing that worked for me was chicken wire on all bare earth. I bought a couple of rolls from Poundland.

Upright sticks about 3inches apart all over the area, sticking up 3-4 inches above the soil surface

Thanks both, we lots of small tree branches in one corner of the garden so will break some into sections and stick them in and see how that goes!

Sticks in the ground as mentioned, spiky plants laid across the soil and sprinkling hot chilli powder or pepper. Cats are a menace though. If they target you garden it can be really miserable.

I have had success with scattering orange peel over attractive areas. There is a cat in my road who used to regularly use my garden, and only
Very rarely does now. The orange peel does appear to be off putting for him.

I have also used little sticks, covering areas with chicken wire, and cat sonic repellant devices.

We ended up cat-proofing our garden. Wire fencing, the lot. Our poor old girl cat couldn't cope with next door's Bengal and we had to keep it out.

Citronella oil is working for me lately

FflosFfantastig · 10/02/2022 22:45

I haven't yet found a solution OP there's a local cat that visits every night and leaves a deposit. I did start spraying citronella mixed with tea tree and vinegar but all it did was mean that the cat still visited but did the business in another place in the garden, which I then had to look around for. So I have just resigned myself to de pooping every day. At least it's a creature of habit so it's always in the same spot . Good luck!
