how are your snowdrops?

Happy Imbolc!
Except there's little sign of the snowdrops I planted last April, perhaps too late.
What's the state of snowdrops elsewhere? does everyone else have lots?

@Rosebuud

Mine are also slow this year, and ours are prolific normally. The daffodils are coming up faster.
same here!
MrsBertBibby · 03/02/2022 12:15

Is it equally good to plant them whilst in flower, or pre-flower?

Robin233 · 03/02/2022 12:21

I've wondering where mine are.
First time planted loads.
No show.
Did see a load last week under some trees.

But it's true we have had a very dry warm autumn. It bound to effect things

in flower or post flower - at least that is what I understand
MakingProgress2022 · 03/02/2022 14:08

24 have come through in the last few days (I counted). Planted ‘in the green’ last year.

So happy to see them though hoping for more, I am sure I planted about 200. Hoping too that they will naturalise in future years.

steppemum · 03/02/2022 15:49

hmm, I've just been down the garden and some of mine are up, but very small, and veyr short.

My helebores are also not yet in flower, they are usually just after Christmas.
I wonder if they are all too dry, we haven't had rain for ages.

zafferana · 03/02/2022 15:50

Mine are up and looking great. Hellebores are also up and buds starting to open. I'm in the SE where it's been sunny and quite warm recently.

Mine are looking lovely but I've had them for years. I'm in N. Wales but we've had very mild weather lately.

Namechangeforthis88 · 03/02/2022 16:01

New house, new garden so it's a treat seeing these wee surprises that come for free with the house!

I can see some from where I work from home, a colleague messaged me during a Teams meeting "What are you looking at out the window?".

whoruntheworldgirls · 03/02/2022 16:05

Mine are up, i'm outside York

Some other bulbs have come through but not yet flowered (no idea what they are as only moved here a few months ago)

dementedma · 03/02/2022 16:10

First clump in the garden at work in Dundee

Autumnscene · 03/02/2022 17:09

I planted a few as bulbs from the market last year and they are coming up really slowly. (Mid Wales)

ExtremelyDelighted · 03/02/2022 17:57

Mine are at least a couple of weeks behind where they were last year (from photos on my phone). They are established clumps, been in about 10 years.

PlatinumBrunette · 03/02/2022 18:02

I've lost at least two thirds of mine, and the remaining 'clump' is not looking good. No idea what's happened, maybe too wet? Or the squirrels dug them up? And I went to two garden centres yesterday to get more and they didn't have any. I'm sulking.

Robin233 · 04/02/2022 12:28

Just came across a load in the cemetery.

how are your snowdrops?
prettyteapotsplease · 04/02/2022 12:34

I've a nice little splash of snowdrops in the sunny border which have just shown their heads.

viques · 04/02/2022 12:44

Aw, that’s lovely. The tiny and very old church just up the road from me (12th century!) will have masses of crocuses across one corner in a week or so. I always wonder who it was that tucked a few bulbs around someone’s grave little realising how much they would spread and gladden the hearts of passers by over the years.
TheOnlyMrsMac · 04/02/2022 14:25

We've had a good display of snowdrops for decades now, but - like Monty's - they were late appearing this year and are less plentiful. Usually walkers stop to admire and photograph them - we do admit we can't take any credit as they've thrived on benign neglect! - but I don't think they'll have as many admirers this year. Maybe next year...

TheOnlyMrsMac · 04/02/2022 14:34

About a month late, BTW.

Harrysmummy246 · 04/02/2022 15:55

@TheDuchessOfMN

Mine have always been a bit poorly, a bit sparse.

I planted bulbs a couple of years ago but I’ve heard that it’s better to plant them as snowdrops after they’ve finished flowering, I think (in the green)?

Yes they do better if planted in the green. You can then lift and divide clumps to help them spread themselves

Garden centre where I work has plenty but not the wild type Galanthus nivalis, they're all worownii
JustJam4Tea · 05/02/2022 14:34

Some that were clumps from a friend last year are just showing, north west. And a few from bulbs also coming up, I’m chuffed.

hoochyhag · 05/02/2022 17:37

No 😔 none of my usual two clumps came up this year..

Scarby9 · 05/02/2022 17:43

Mine are up in North Yorkshire.

how are your snowdrops?
Robin233 · 06/02/2022 08:21

Lovely @Scarby9
Seems old established are coming up but not the freshly planted from last year.
Found a few in my front lawn, cemetery and woodland but none I planted in October.
