Simple app for arranging plants in a border

Just that really, does such a thing exist or do I need to get out the graph paper?

I don’t mind whether it’s photos or drawn circles but I’d like something to help me work out roughly how many plants I need for the space so an app that has a plant database rather than fancy landscaping stuff.

I'd love to know too. I knocked up a spreadsheet while I was isolating over new year (time on my hands!). It has a schematic of the garden and what's already there, and another tab with a wishlist of plants. The wishlist has a copied image for each plant, and height and spread etc. The next step is to re-size the images to a scale using the grid on the spreadsheet and organise them into a border plan. It kept me out of trouble for hours but surely there's an easier way!

Any of these look good to you?

I've used Garden Planner Online before (listed in the link in pp). It was ok - easy enough to use and did everything I needed it to.

I just tried iScape but you have to pay if you want a choice of plants, plus it just lets you resize all the plants, which defeats the purpose for me.

Garden planner online sounds good but it’s not in my App Store for some reason (apple and not in U.K. so that might be why). The others are too focused on veg or hard landscaping.

That sounds amazing @Namechangeforthis88 but I don’t think I could cope with the resizing and scale drawings. So far i have some lovely Pinterest mood boards and a handwritten list of heights/widths. I’m seriously thinking of sticking some pictures to plant pots or something and heading out with a tape measure…

Well, In case it helps anyone I worked out that My Garden Planner is online not an app, and I had a play. It would be good for landscaping, but (the free part at least) again has a really limited plant selection. I was really hoping there was something linked to the RHS database (or similar) but maybe that kind of thing only exists for pros.

So I think graph paper it is!

I like pictures on plant pots idea. I had been thinking if we had a colour printer I could do a Blue Peter style effort and stick lots of pictures to a piece of paper. Your idea takes it to the next level.

It’s raining today so I might try your idea of making a collage first @Namechangeforthis88. Although getting it all to scale might be a pain.

www.growveg.co.uk/app/ I use this for veg but it works for flowers too.

That said I find doing a plan + cutting out circles works really well and is great fun.
