Are Passion flowers self clinging?

I'm planning to plant a passion flower along my south facing fence, can anyone advise if it needs any extra support or is it self clinging? The fence has gaps in it- its one designed not to block too much of the neighbours light, so there are small spaces that a climber could scramble through; but I'm not sure if it might need a bit more help than that. Any advice much appreciated!

Yes, they do have tendrils that help them climb, so you need a trellis of some sort for them to cling on to.

When they are established they are very self-clingy but they tend to fork into 2 from the main stem, which can become impossibly long vines further up (if they were spreading along a horizontal edge). To start with it may be good to give these something to twine around and to fix them loosely on it. If one of the long vines were to get weighed down at flowering point, they can snap, but they grow fast.
