Hello! I have inherited this guy at work and would like to ask what he is so I can look after him properly. He’s been abandoned for a while so I’d love to get him health again!

I think its a Peace Lily. They are poisonous to aninals if you do take it home.

They are as tough as old boots, so just cut off the dead/yellowing leaves, give it some water (not waterlogged though), keep away from a radiator & freezing draughts and it should be fine.

Come the spring, you might want to repot him and give him some fresh soil

I find mine do best away from direct light. Cut off the yellowing leaves, then you can leave her alone until the leaves start to droop a bit, then soak thoroughly.

Ok. All the old sad and yellow leaves are gone. Reporting was on the list but he can definitely wait till spring. He’s currently in a lovely spot on my desk and away from the draughty window with the radiator under.

I have also inherited a orchid, which I think is high maintenance, any advice?!

Similar advice to the peace Lily, except more light. You've got two of the lowest maintenance houseplants there imo!

Oh @ErrolTheDragon that is music to my ears!!

I’m cautiously optimistic that I’ll be able to keep them alive! Here is a pic of the other plant.

It looks ok, but as the container doesn't look as though it has holes I think you'll probably have to just water it quite sparingly a bit more often rather than the intermittent soaking method. Use rainwater if possible.

KatyaZamolodchikova · 11/12/2021 11:12

Yes there is no drainage in the container. I don’t usually mind repotting but this is all moss and glass and I feel a bit out of my comfort zone with him. I’m not sure how I’ll get hold of rainwater but will see what I can do!
