Replanting tulips

I lifted my tulips from tubs after they had died back and have stored them for replanting this year.
I’ve been reading conflicting articles on wether they will re flower or not.
Has anyone had success doing this, my plan is to dot the old bulbs around the garden and I’ve purchased new bulbs for the pots.

I think a lot depends on what type they are. Sarah Raven had some good info on their website.

I did loads last autumn and most flowered again just fine. Definitely worth a try!

I've regularly lifted tulips and then replanted the bulbs in the autumn. As long as I've protected them from the squirrels (who LOVE feasting on a freshly planted tulip bulb in the autumn) they've always flowered again absolutely fine.

Thank you everyone, if it ever stops raining I will replant.

I was given some by MIL who died about 20 years ago. They’re planted in the garden and have flowered every year since, although they’re decreasing in numbers. So they can keep going if you’re lucky

I sit mine on a sprinkle of grit (wet heavy clay) when I plant them and feed them as the flowers are going over, and they come back nicely. I find the bog basic ones from B&Q to be more reliable/robust than the fancy frilly expensive ones though.

Well, I thought I’d update you all. The fancy Sarah Raven ones didn’t reflower just leaves. The cheap and cheerful Willos did reflower.
I will still be buying Sarah Ravens every year as the give an exceptional display, just won’t be storing them.

The SR ones I planted v deep, and left in the ground, are all coming back fir a second year : lots of buds.

Sorry yours didn't play call!

Beebumble2 · 03/04/2022 16:55

I was a bit late in attending to mine that were just shoved in large ordinary plastic pots for storing. They started growing buds and are now about to fully flower along with their bedmates, narcissuses. So much for tenderly looking after them, ignoring seems to do the trick.
Mine are a mixture of cheapo Wilkos and the Co-Op 3 bags for £5!

MrsBertBibby

Thanks for that, I’ll give that a go with these ones, nothing really to loose. Did you lift them or leave them n situ?

Sorry just reread you
Left in the ground. I’ve planted this years very deep so will just leave them in.

Some of my fancy ones are coming into flower for a second year, the cheap ones are still winning though!
