Eucalyptus

I've bought a little eucalyptus plant 9cm pot. It just arrived and it's smaller and more fragile looking than I imagined. Should I keep it indoors over winter or will it be hardier than it looks. Itll be going into a pot outside rather than into the ground.

No don't keep it inside, plant it outdoors and all you will need to do is put it in a fairly sheltered spot away from strong winds. If the weather is likely to be below freezing for any length of time, then if you have a cool porch, shed or outhouse, then you could put it in there temporarily just for a few days.

One of the worst things is actually bright sunshine on a plant in a pot when the soil in the pot is frozen solid, because it will try to photosynthesise but the roots can't supply any water so it dehydrates, and that can kill it quite quickly.

What kind of a eucalpyt is it? if it's a type of 'snow gum' it will be relatively hardy and should survive outside over winter if it's a decent size. I got one a couple of years ago and it's been in a pot outside the whole time (Midlands).

But it was about four foot when I got it. If yours isn't a snow gum, or is very small, inside somewhere light once the frosts start is probably a good idea.

Gunnii. It looks pretty sad after the journey, maybe i should have brought it straight outside.

@passionfruitpizza

That variety is from Tasmania apparently, which gets pretty cold - so it's probably ok outdoors.
