‘Mushrooms’ where tree used to be

Several years ago I had a tree removed from the middle of a lawn, and the root was ‘ground down’ with a mechanical device.
Ever since, when it’s wet, we get small dark brown mushrooms growing there.
Any ideas of how to permanently get rid of them ?

You presumably know that the “mushrooms” are simply the fruiting bodies of the fungus, which will be growing in the soil. Assuming it’s growing on the remains of the tree, once they’ve consumed that, they’ll die out.

Armillatox used to be available for killing fungi but has been banned by the EU. even if it is still available, id think hard before using it to cure what is basically a cosmetic problem

why do you want to get rid of them?

most mushrooms in uk are not poisonous, even if they are not edible (i.e. taste nasty).

if you don't like the look of them the lawn mower makes a good job of it.

I want to get rid of them because they look awful in the middle of my lawn, and it’s been about 10 years since the tree went.

Check out if they're edible and make a stroganoff?

You could try digging out the area and removing the soil and then relaying with new grass?

We have lots of fungi that grows on our grass every autumn . We enjoy going out and looking at the varieties . We have a fair few trees in the garden and assume it's because of them they come up. Embrace it as it's only nature and a part of life for the great outdoors.

We have quite a few odd looking mushrooms and don't use chemicals in the garden.
I do go about picking the ones I see and putting them in our garden bin. My idea being I'm removing future spores, possibly pointless not sure.
