Anyone has successfully planted Acanthus Spinosus without letting it run freely?

I bought this young plant without knowing the trouble it could bring. So now I'm halfway deciding if I shall just keep it in a pot. But obviously it would reduce its chance to survive in winter unless I bring the pot inside. And I don't feel it's the right thing for such a beautiful plant too.

Is there anyone who successfully grew this plant without letting it take over the garden? (My garden is a relatively small one.)

I grow acanthus mollis, rather than spinosus. It's made a large clump over the years. It hasn't run amok, but years after I moved it from one side of the garden to the other, the fragment of root I obviously left behind still sends up fresh leaves every spring. I'll eradicate it one day!

Mine flowered last year, but not this year. It survives, but certainly isn’t thriving or taking over. I think it is crowded by other things and struggling.

Or, I should say they are all struggling. There are a few. I seem to have had them forever, but they don’t spread from that particular neglected corner, and they rarely flower. Sorry, that probably doesn’t help much.

We have acanthus mollis and morning's candle, both planted soon after we purchased this house 3.5 years ago. Neither have flowered yet. They look like reasonable sized clumps, mainly because we bought three of each type. Tbh, we have a large garden and I wish they'd hurry up and spread a bit more as we've still loads of space to fill, lol!
