I would appreciate direction to where is the best place to source seeds to grow pumpkins next year and what growing tips you have?

Sarah Raven has one called black futsu. She usually knows her stuff.
Dig in a lot of manure and give them lots of space. I tend to grow squashes, but it’s the same principle. You can put them on bricks or tiles as they start to form.

Variety is more important than source - All the big veg seed companies have several varieties of pumpkin, and there's very few varieties which are available from only one supplier. Look for a varietywith an AGM Award of Garden Merit (AGM) if you don't want to spend a long time researching varieties.. You might as well go for the cheapest, eg Sarah Raven is selling Black Futsu for £2.95 but Nick's Nursery has it at £2.35

Agree Black Futsu looks very interesting (attractive appearance and good flavour) but it has a long growing season so wouldn't be the best for me in Yorkshire.

what pumpkins are people growing where you are? that might indicate what grows well.

smaller ones tend to be quicker growing.
pattipan or hokaido for example.not very exciting but full of flavour and easy to grow.
