What plant is this and why have the leaves started turning yellow?

I’ve no idea what I’m doing. I don’t even know what this plant is!! I’ve had it around a month. It’s in a partial light position. I water about once a week. Am I watering too much? Too little? Does it need feeding maybe?

It looks like a Kentia palm - Howea forsteriana, which likes partial shade (not full sun) and should be watered when the top inch or so of the potting mix is dry. It doesn’t like to be too dry or too wet. Maybe the yellowing leaves are a reaction to it being moved to your home, from where it was grown. The pot looks a little small, so might benefit from a slightly larger one. General rule about feeding - never feed a sick plant, but I can’t tell whether yours is sick or just sulking from its move!

Okay. I can definitely repot! It was from
B&M so I’m going to guess it didn’t have the most salubrious of starts. I love it though ♥️

Usually leaves that turn yellow are either due to over watering or direct light, try moving it away from a window and make sure their are holes in the bottom of the pot with a dish underneath to allow the roots to breathe and excess water, put the water in the bottom not the top that way the roots will absorb what it needs, and cut the yellow leaves off close to the plant as possible it will revive, you can even mix in some house plant compost with the soil.

Sorry I forgot to add the plant name it's Howea forsteriana if you google that there are different species of this, try getting the leaf snap app u just take a photo with ur phone and it tells you all about your plant and how to care for it, there is an upgrade u can pay for but I just use the free one

So I repotted the plant and it was bone dry. I had a pot in a pot and the water had run through the first pot and collected at the bottom of the second where the roots couldn’t get to it. So I suspect lack of water was the issue.
