Does anyone know what these might be?

I found some tiny bulbs in a pot of soil that had been left in the garden when we moved here last year and I potted them up an this is what has grown. No flowers.

Are they likely to turn into anything more interesting?

Maybe crocosmia?

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 14/08/2021 23:04

I’ve got some Acidanthera murielae that look like that, I’m still waiting for them to flower.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/08/2021 08:27

Could be...likely something in the Iridaceae family anyway. If the bulbs/corms were tiny they may need to grow a bit before they produce flowers. I'd keep them anyway.

@ErrolTheDragon

Maybe crocosmia?
Our crocosmia are currently looking like this.

I think Acidanthera, you obv. can't be sure.

Definitely worth keeping. Do update when they flower?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 15/08/2021 08:32

but obv.

My thought was crocosmia too. Mine haven't flowered the last two years and spend months looking like your pic Sad.

I have something in a pot that looks just like this as well, but I've no idea what it is. I do have a vague recollection of buying Acidanthera though. It flowered last year as well. Grin

A key thing is to look at the base. Are the leaves coming in two opposite ranks, rather than at all angles, so the plant looks flattened at the base?

MrsBertBibby · 15/08/2021 23:11

I had a load of greenery much like this which arrived every year, no flowers ever.

I dug it out this spring, it had tiny white bulbs. They looked almost luminous.

Sorry!

Thanks for all the replies!

I have some 'adult' crocosmia too but what grew from the tiny bulbs didn't really look at all like the adult crocosmia so I didn't make the connection. I will certainly keep tending to them and see what happens next year though!
