The first picture is hardy Crainsbill geraniums, looks like Wargrave. It’s very prolific and doesn’t mind being chopped right down.
The second picture of leaves look like Valerian, some people consider it a weed, but I like it in the right place. It also is happy to be chopped back.

Thank you @Beebumble2 I googled Valerian and it doesn't look like this when it had flowers, attached picture of some is petals that I've just found

It's an alstromeria @ineedaholidayandwine , lovely cut flower. Will die off and come back next year.

NotMaryWhitehouse · 03/08/2021 16:11

Alstroemeria, even

Old flowered stems of Alstroemerias can just be pulled out - no need to cut them down.

Beebumble2 · 03/08/2021 16:29

Yes Alstroemeria now I see the petal. Lovely for you.

ineedaholidayandwine · 03/08/2021 16:34

So if i pull them out they'll still come back next year? They are so pretty i don't want to lose them but as you can tell have no idea about garden care.
Our last garden had roses, hydrangeas and oriental lilies, all of which we found easy to care for.

Should have said, they have basically all flopped over so are laying on the ground now, they were like that when we moved in

As you can see everything has flopped over.
The laurels and the big bush are getting a very good cut back in a month or so when i have some one coming to do the trees

Yes, Alstroemerias are perennial. I have a bank of them at the back of a bed, and pull the finished stems out. They often regrow, so you may get more before winter sets in. When happy, they spread quite prolifically.
